History of CVO

The CVO program was established in 1999 as a response to riders' demands for exclusive factory-customs. It all began with a limited production (just 900 units) of the FXR2, then the FXR3 and the FXR4. With each new model came unique features, paint schemes, and accessories, creating a demand that far exceeded the output of its limited production run.

In addition to the FXR4, the 2000 model year saw the introduction of something altogether new. The FLTRSEI™ Screamin' Eagle® Road Glide®, a marriage of the latest touring design and Screamin' Eagle performance parts.

For model year 2001, the program expanded by adding another assembly line at the Vehicle Operations facility in York, Pennsylvania. The FXDWG2 and FLTRSEI2 Screamin' Eagle Road Glide were unveiled featuring a variety of new options. 2002 brought the FXDWG3 and the first-ever FLHRSEI Screamin' Eagle Road King®.

It would be difficult to duplicate what the CVO program has to offer because the bikes feature certain existing accessories for each model, but also include new accessories that can't be purchased anywhere else. Some of the paint schemes are "restricted." Take the Screamin' Eagle Road Glide design, for example. Not only is it unavailable to put on an existing motorcycle, if your FLTRSEI2 was ever damaged to the point of repainting, you would have to present your CVO Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to get the job done.

2003, Harley-Davidson's 100th Anniversary year, introduced the first CVO Softail® model, the FXSTDSE Screamin' Eagle Deuce™ and the FLHRSEI2 Screamin' Eagle Road King. The FLHRSEI2 boasted a 103-cubic-inch Twin Cam engine (a first for CVO) and a Big Bore Twin Cam 95 powered the FXSTDSE.

Model year 2004 brought two additional models to the CVO family. The FXSTDSE2 Screamin’ Eagle Softail Deuce takes it to the next level with a 95-cubic-inch engine, wide 180 rear tire and chrome detailing of the custom seat and pillion. Offered in two custom paint colors, with matching color on the frame, swingarm, fender struts, oil tank and bullet chin spoiler. The FLHTCSE Screamin’ Eagle Electra Glide® Twin Cam 103™ is dialed up with three-spoke Detonator™ wheels, chrome handlebar, premium sound system and subtle flame accents topping off two stunning color schemes.
